On behalf of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the Western region of Canada, we would like to extend to you an invitation to take part in the AWEAR-NESS event, a night of fashion to raise funds and awareness for Leukemia and related cancers.
This is the first AWEAR-NESS event to be held in British Columbia, and we hope for it not to be the last.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people across the world are affected directly or indirectly by Leukemia. Whether it be a mother, daughter, father, son, best friend, or co-worker, leukemia has left a devastating impact on many people across the world. As much as 138,530 people in the US alone were said to have been diagnosed with leukemia in the year 2008. Every ten minutes another child or adult is expected to die from leukemia, which works out to about 145 people a day, or 6 people in just one hour.
Although the statistics are devastating, there are more and more people living with and surviving leukemia today, and by participating in this one night, we can help contribute to the growing numbers of survivors. By bringing the community together for this great cause, we hope to raise enough money to make an impact.
